AUB Architecture/ Ground Project

Prace mame stale viac nez dost (tak preco nenapisat post...) a velku cast z toho tvoria projekty, ktore potom musime dokumentovat (digitalne a manualne) a potom odovzdavat project reports.

Vytvoril som 3 ine a potom som kazdu postupne menil a zmenil som materialy a postup, az som sa nakoniec dopracoval k tomuto.

Pred par dnami som prisiel do atelieru a bolo to kompletne roztecene, cela doska znicena. upratoval som to niekolko hodin. Nastastie som to stihol zdokumentovat.

Fascinujuce.

Matus: Another new series by me will be about my schoolwork at the Arts University Bournemouth. For those who don't know that I'm studying Architecture here. We have loads of work to do (so why not write a blogpost...) and a considerable part of it are projects. These we have to document afterwards (digitally and manually) and hand it in as project reports. I'll be posting them here so you'll see what is it that I actually do. Every time I'll try to explain what the assignment was about and I'll write some comments about my creations. I hope it'll be interesting and if not... well, at least I'll have it all here safe'n'sound :).

This was the first project we had and it's called Ground Project. The assignment was to create three different grounds using three different materials and different methods on A3 MDF boards. The important thing was to not design the grounds but to let the materials design themselves. We were supposed to think about what the materials wanted to be, what is it's natural use, basically to understand the materials' nature and embrace it.

I was rather confused when I read the assignment for the first time and I've read it a lot of times until I so-so understood what I'm supposed to do. Neither one of these final grounds is what I originally wanted do make. I've made three different grounds and then I was changing them and remaking and rearranging and changing materials and again until I got these.

The first material are dishwasher tablets arranged in a regular pattern next to each other. Whether the green side of a tablet or the white side is up or down was based on a complete accident, therefore it creates irregular pattern. The space created using these tablets looks really interesting in its regular vs irregular nature. I used superglue to attach them to each other. The second material are sweets randomly arranged on the board to create an uneven surface. They're glued with their own stickiness. I tried to melt them with a hairdryer but it didn't work. However, a couple of days ago I found the board completely destroyed in the studio because the sweets melted. How? I have no idea. I spent a couple of hours cleaning up the mess. Fortunately, I documented it before. The third material is a foil twisted into different shapes to create a sort of terrain. Being shrugged a lot of beautiful sharp edges occurred all over it and they give it a pretty crystalline texture. It is glued to the board using a superglue.

The most fascinating moment of the whole project was when we were handing them in after a week and our course leader Simon was giving as feedback He really liked my board with the dishwasher tablets and he took it and he put on it a small human figure used as a scale in models. At the moment the figure was there the board magically changed into a real space in which there are people walking around, sitting on the higher tablets, kids are playing catch and hide and seek, couples having a date and a lonely student of architecture eating a cheeseburger for a pound. Fascinating.

  4. Pri pohľade na prvé dve tvoje práce ma ako prvé napadlo, koľko balíkov cukríkov a umývacích tabliet si do toho musel investovať? :D vyzerá to zaujímavo, hlavne tie prvé dve sa mi veľmi páčia, fascinujúce :)
